Media Release: PeopleIN and TAFE Queensland partner to address critical labour shortage

Thousands of Queensland workers and international TAFE students and graduates across the state and offshore are set to benefit from a new partnership between PeopleIN and TAFE Queensland announced today.

Under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the parties have joined forces to promote labour mobility in Australia to defensive in-demand sectors, as well as deliver placement services to TAFE Queensland’s 125,000 graduates and upskilling opportunities to PeopleIN’s 55,000 strong on-hire workforce.

With skills shortages in Australia almost doubling in the past year, the partnership will bridge the gap between education and jobs. It will provide a clear path to skilled employment in critical sectors in which PeopleIN operates including healthcare, community services, childcare and the renewables sector.

PeopleIN CEO Ross Thompson said the relationship positioned the two organisations to collaboratively address labour shortages in Queensland.

"We’re thrilled to partner with TAFE Queensland to provide labour mobility, employment pathways for their graduating students and to connect our extensive workforce to training and development opportunities."

"This agreement aligns with our commitment to upskill Australia’s workforce and create opportunities for individuals to succeed across metropolitan and regional Queensland, and beyond.”

“Nursing, community services and construction are among the sectors with the greatest skills shortages and we’re leaders in placing workers in these, and other critical industries. Working with one of Australia’s largest VET providers and specialists in training in these areas means we’re perfectly placed to deliver skilled and experienced candidates where they’re needed most.”

“The MoU allows us to deliver on our complete talent solutions offering in which upskilling our workforce and retaining talent are core priorities. It’s an opportunity to give back to our contracted workforce and invest in their careers through formal training,” Mr Thompson said.

TAFE Queensland CEO Mary Campbell said the MOU provided an exciting opportunity to work with PeopleIN to address skill shortages across the state.

“We have 125,000 graduates each year that include students from the Pacific region and many countries globally who choose to invest in their education with TAFE Queensland,” Mrs Campbell said.

"This partnership provides a ready-made avenue to employment for our students and graduates in key sectors across the state. We’re also pleased to provide skills training and qualifications to PeopleIN’s established workforce.”

“Our remit is to deliver quality education and training that enables the careers of our students and development of industry and the best way we can achieve this is to secure employment pathways for our graduates in those sectors."

“It was just going to be a little job for a couple of months, when I first came back from overseas”. 14 years ago Karlee Berg began her career with Tribe Workforce Solutions as an Administration Assistant. Today, after performing every role in between (and often more than one at once!), she’s now the General Manager. “I trained as a beauty therapist and I'd been working overseas, as the day spa manager on cruise ships. It’s a hectic lifestyle and I was pretty burnt out when I got home and needed a break,” Karlee said. “I think I'd only been back in the country for a month and a friend, who was working with AWX (another of PeopleIN’s brands), said the directors had started this new business, focused on the hospitality sector. They didn’t have admin or account staff, just a general manager, and people from AWX were just jumping in to help where they could.
